Terms of Use

What Marchland does, what stays yours, and what to keep in mind while playing.

Marchland ships as two separate downloads. The iOS build on the App Store - the one this page is written for - carries no advertising and sends no telemetry of any kind. The Android build on Google Play includes one optional rewarded video, and reports crashes and usage statistics to Firebase; what each of those collects is set out under Advertising and under Crash and usage reporting on this page, and in full here: Android version

These terms say what Marchland offers, what stays yours, and what to keep in mind while playing. Please read the sections on real time, your save and usage limits in particular.

What the app is

A portrait, single-player territory-building and war-strategy game. You start with a holding on a northern frontier: post labourers on farms, woodcuts, quarries and gold claims, raise the settlement into a town, and climb from the Frontier age through Feudal, Castle and Imperial - while your army pushes past the border, takes the gate and breaks the enemy capital. No account is required. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. The iOS build shows no advertising; the Android build on Google Play carries one optional rewarded video and has its own terms and privacy policy. What the app costs, if anything, is whatever the App Store product page says.

Real time and campaign pace

The campaign runs on real time. One in-game day is twenty-four real hours and the chronicle counts up to day seven; after that the realm stays yours to keep running and conquering - nothing ends the save for you.

Production continues while you are away, but a single catch-up credits at most twenty-four hours of output; anything beyond that does not stack. Come back when you feel like it, not on a timer. Construction timers, convoys on the road and enemy attacks on your gate advance on absolute timestamps, so after three days the buildings are finished and whatever siege happened has already been written into your reports.

You set the difficulty when you found the realm: between one and nine enemy realms, each individually on Easy, Normal or Brutal. A realm you destroy stays destroyed.

Your save

Progress, settings, reports and the chronicle are stored in your device's sandbox. There is no server copy: we cannot look up, restore, merge or delete your save for you. Reinstalling the app, erasing the device or restoring from an Apple backup decides whether a save survives - that is Apple's mechanism, not ours.

Usage limits

Please use the app lawfully. Do not decompile or reverse-engineer it; do not lift its artwork, audio, map data or code out of the bundle to distribute or resell as a standalone asset pack; do not repackage and redistribute the app itself; and do not edit local save data to pass off a fabricated report as a real result. Nothing in this section limits what third-party components permit under their own licences - this app has no third-party runtime, see "Third-party components" in the Privacy Policy.

The game has no online, social or user-generated content: no leaderboards, no chat, no share wall other players can see, no material produced by other players. It therefore does not need moderation, reporting or blocking features.

Licence

Subject to these terms and Apple's App Store Terms and Conditions, you receive a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on Apple devices you lawfully control. Ownership of the software and its assets does not transfer; third-party components keep their own open-source licences as listed in the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimer and liability

The app is provided "as is". It depends on iOS and on your device's performance; system updates, storage pressure or unusual hardware can affect how it runs, and we do not promise error-free operation on every device and every iOS version. This does not affect your mandatory legal rights, and liabilities that applicable law does not allow to be excluded are not excluded by these terms.

Changes and stopping

Features may change between versions; changes that clearly affect gameplay (for example an adjustment to the offline catch-up cap) are stated in the release notes. Updating these terms does not by itself turn a free feature into a paid one. You may stop using the app at any time and delete it, taking your local save with it.

If something goes wrong, contact the developer first - the address is on the privacy policy page linked from the App Store listing. These terms do not ask you to give up consumer-protection rights and do not change the jurisdiction of a competent court.

Scope of these terms

These terms set the rules for using the app. They do not replace Apple's standard licence for delivery of the app, and they do not override the Privacy Policy - how data is handled is settled there.

Please mention "Marchland" and what you would like done. You can also reach us through the support link on the app's App Store product page. We do not ask for unrelated personal details to answer an ordinary question - and since the app never contacts a server, there is usually no data of yours for us to act on.
